Belarus fulfills all the recommendations of international organizations concerning the nuclear power plant. Lithuania's criticism is unjustified, BelTA learned from Prime Minister of Belarus Roman Golovchenko on 22 December.
Roman Golovchenko said: “Lithuania's stance on Belarus is rather strange. It began with absolutely unjustified criticism of the Belarusian nuclear power plant. The criticism was expressed despite the fact that we have positive conclusions of international organizations such as the IAEA and ENSREG, which remark upon Belarus' openness and transparency and the fulfillment of all recommendations. A Belarusian deputy minister of foreign affairs met with a deputy head of the International Atomic Energy Agency recently. The IAEA official once again stressed that the Belarusian side very responsibly and scrupulously observes all the requirements of international regulators. Against this backdrop statements from the other side of the border sound odd, mildly speaking.”
The Belarusian nuclear power plant with two VVER-1200 reactors with the total output capacity of 2,400MW is located near Ostrovets, Grodno Oblast. A Russian Generation III+ design was chosen for building Belarus' first nuclear power plant. The design is fully compliant with international norms and recommendations of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
