Spring crops in Belarus have been sown on almost 30% of the target area, Deputy Agriculture and Food Minister Vladimir Grakun told a press conference on 5 April, BelTA has learned.
“The main work is carried out in the southern areas, including the Brest, Gomel, and Grodno regions. The Vitebsk and Mogilev regions have joined the work, too. This year, the farmers face the task of carrying out the spring sowing campaign as quickly as possible,” said Vladimir Grakun. Spring crops will occupy 644,000 hectares, sugar beets – 98,000 hectares, flax – 47,000 hectares, corn - more than 1 million hectares and potatoes – 20,000 hectares.
According to the deputy minister, agricultural organizations have enough seed material. Plans are in place to procure 83% of the needs in mineral fertilizers, or 130% to the level of 2021. Necessary volumes of plant protection products are purchased.
Sowing equipment readiness is 95%. This year's sowing campaign will feature about 36,000 tractors, including 6,700 power-operated tractors, 2,500 combined tillage and 2,800 tillage and seeding aggregates, 1,700 grain seeders.
