Plans to begin reconstructing Minsk-Vilnius motorway in 2020

Plans have been made to begin reconstructing the M7/E28 motorway (Minsk-Oshmyany – the Lithuanian border) in 2020. Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Vladimir Kukharev mentioned it as he met with employees of the forwarding company OAO Avtosila, BelTA has learned.

Vladimir Kukharev said: “Within one month we will begin work on reconstructing the M7 motorway, which connects the capital of Belarus with the capital of Lithuania. It is a serious transport corridor. The border checkpoint Kamenny Log will be reconstructed as well. Its throughput capacity will be doubled. I think we will finish this work in 2021.”

According to Vladimir Kukharev, the reconstruction of the M6 Minsk-Grodno motorway as well as the reconstruction of the border checkpoint Bruzgi were finished in 2019. The throughput capacity of the border checkpoint was doubled. “Today we see that this corridor has become important for us because the traffic that uses the corridor has increased. The quality of roads is also very important. It determines vehicle speed, fuel consumption, and vehicle amortization. Moreover, Belarus is a transit country. A large amount of transit freight is transported across our territory every day,” he stressed.

The M3 Minsk-Vitebsk motorway is being repaired now. “We will begin work to reconstruct part of this road from Minsk. There will be eight traffic lanes to Borovlyany and six traffic lanes to Logoisk. One lane in each direction will be reserved for public transport. The M10 motorway is being reconstructed as well,” Vladimir Kukharev said.
