A unique book on the history and tourism of the Augustow Canal has been published in Grodno, BelTA learned from deputy head of the sport and tourism department at the Grodno Oblast Executive Committee Tatiana Lidyayeva.
The 250-page illustrated book “Augustow Canal: an Unusual Story and a New Life” tells in detail about the past and present of the unique hydraulic facility. Working on the book were a number of writers, including well-known specialists from the Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno. The book was written in Russian and English.
“The book was published to mark the 75th anniversary of Grodno Oblast. Today there are not many books that can tell about the rich history of the Augustov Canal, its present stage. The book also has chapters devoted to sport tourism, investment opportunities of the region, its main tourist attractions, the most outstanding events and even the visa-free zone which actually starts from the Augustow Canal in Grodno Oblast,” Tatiana Lidyayeva said. She stressed that the book can become a sort of a guidebook.
“The Augustow Canal is one of the most important tourist spots of the region, so the development of transport and tourist infrastructure is given increased attention. This season tourists will be treated to a number of novelties. Bicycle rental points will offer modern bikes. New bike routes will be on offer. The tourist and information center in Sopotskin will be renovated for the new season,” Tatiana Lidyayeva added. Work is also underway to purchase a new leisure boat.
This season tourists will also be invited to visit the palace and park complex in Svyatsk and a park complex in Radzivilki.
