Belarusian Grodno Oblast, Russia's Altai Territory to advance cooperation

Grodno Oblast governor Vladimir Karanik held a meeting with the delegation of Russia's Altai Territory headed by Deputy Prime Minister of the region Alexander Lukyanov. The meeting focused on ways of advancing mutually beneficial cooperation, BelTA has learned.

"Cooperation with Russian regions is gathering pace," Vladimir Karanik said. “Our delegations travel to Russian regions and we are happy to host representatives of Russian regions here. Every such meeting reveals new points of cooperation and once again confirms that we have a very great potential to promote cooperation. The interaction of Grodno Oblast with Altai Territory is the most impressive. Over the past year, the trade turnover has grown sixfold. This is evidence that we underworked in past years. But the momentum over the past four months suggests that we have something to offer each other. We have good prospects for mutually beneficial cooperation for the benefit of our regions and people.”

Vladimir Karanik called mechanical engineering, agricultural machinery, and the exchange of technologies in animal husbandry the most promising areas of cooperation. Altai Territory has a very advanced animal husbandry industry. It is a recognized leader in the Russian Federation, and the exchange of best practices will give a synergistic effect,” he noted.

The governor expressed hope for the development of active humanitarian cooperation: between universities, in culture, tourism.

The results of the visit have exceeded all expectations, Alexander Lukyanov noted. "This applies to cooperation with Grodno Oblast and the Republic of Belarus as a whole," the head of the Altai Territory delegation emphasized. "We will study your developments in the agricultural sector and offer our own to contribute to the growth of our industries."

The guests also noted the good tourist potential of Grodno Oblast. They said they were impressed by the historical sites, cleanliness and tidiness of the cities.

Following the meeting, Head of the Shelabolikha District of Altai Territory Alexander Shushunov and Chairman of the Lida District Executive Committee Sergei Lozhechnik signed an agreement on the establishment of friendly relations between the districts.
