Belarus’ economy stabilized
MINSK, 17 May (BelTA) - The situation in the economy and finance in Belarus has stabilized, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said as he met with Prime Minister Mikhail Myasnikovich to receive his report, BelTA learnt from the press service of the head of state. “First of all, I would like to hear from the Government (we already discussed the matter with the Chairman of the Board of the National Bank) how the issues that are of concern to the population are being resolved. >>>
Nato delegation arrives in Belarus
MINSK, 14 May (BelTA) – A Nato delegation has arrived in Belarus for a three-day visit on 14 May, BelTA learnt from the Defense Ministry. The delegation includes representatives of the Nato Secretariat, Allied Command Operations and Allied Command Transformation, military attaches of the Nato member states accredited by the Defense Ministry of Belarus. The delegation will review current results and plans to implement the 2010 Partnership Goals and will also discuss a draft package of 2012 Partnership Goals. >>>

NBRB to reduce refinancing rate to 34% p.a. on 16 May
MINSK, 11 May (BelTA) - The refinancing rate in Belarus will be cut down to 34% per annum on 16 May. Relevant resolution No.229 of 10 May 2012 was adopted by the Board of the National Bank, BelTA learnt from the information department of the National Bank of the Republic of Belarus (NBRB). The bank’s committee for monetary policy took a decision to reduce the refinancing rate on permanently affordable liquidity support operations and bilateral operations from 60% to 55% per annum and the refinancing rate on permanently affordable liquidity withdrawal operations from 23% to 20% per annum. >>>
Dialogue to settle differences between Belarus, West
MINSK, 8 May (BelTA) – Belarus and the West should settle their differences through a dialogue instead of sanctions and prohibitions, said President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko in his address to the nation and the parliament on 8 May. “Yes, we have different views on some aspects of the society but we should overcome these differences via a dialogue instead of sanctions and prohibitions. The policy of sanctions is a mistake primarily because it is useless and lacks results,” believes the head of state. >>>
All types of print media blossom out in Belarus
MINSK, 4 May (BelTA) – Print media of all forms of ownership are blossoming out in Belarus, Deputy Information Minister of Belarus Vladimir Matusevich told BelTA. About 1,400 newspapers and magazines are registered in the State Register of Mass Media. Over 1,000 of them are non-state ones. This year 36 newspapers and magazines have been registered, of which only three were registered by the government. >>>
Lukashenko: $500 salaries by the end of the year
MINSK, 3 May (BelTA) – Salaries should reach $500 by the end of 2012, said President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko as he heard out a report from Chairperson of the Federation of Trade Unions of Belarus (FTUB) Leonid Kozik on 3 May. The press service of the Belarusian head of state quoted Alexander Lukashenko as saying: “I am starting to believe that some executives are hiding behind what the president has said: higher salaries for harder work. >>>
Belarus, Turkmenistan committed to long-term cooperation
MINSK, 27 April (BelTA) – Belarus and Turkmenistan confirm their commitment to further enhancement of the long-term and mutually beneficial cooperation. President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko and Turkmenistan President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov signed the relevant communique after talks on 27 April, BelTA has learned. The document reads: “In the atmosphere of friendship, mutual understanding and deep trust the presidents of Belarus and Turkmenistan discussed the state and prospects of progressive development of Belarusian-Turkmenian relations in various areas, exchanged views on topical international and regional problems”. >>>
Retirement pensions up by 18.2% in Belarus in May
MINSK, 27 April (BelTA) – Retirement pensions will be raised by 18.2% on the average in Belarus in May. Minimal retirement pensions, social pensions, bonuses, additional payments for pensions of non-working pensioners aged 75 and over will be raised, Belarusian Labor and Social Protection Minister Marianna Shchetkina told BelTA. In line with Belarus president decree No. 35 of 16 January 2012 pensions will be recalculated starting 1 May 2012 taking into account the average salary in Q1 2012. >>>
Lukashenko: Higher salaries for harder work
BYKHOV DISTRICT, 26 April (BelTA) – Salaries will be raised in Belarus to match the growth of labor productivity, said President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko while talking to workers of the Bykhov Canned Vegetables Factory on 26 April. “If you turn out more products, you will sell more products, you will get more money and hence higher salaries. Nobody is going to give the money one hasn’t earned to anyone. >>>
