Young ecologists from Belarus, Russia, Germany to fix up lake near Ruba
VITEBSK, 2 August (BelTA) – A youth environmental camp in Vitebsk has brought together volunteers from Vitebsk, Russia’s Smolensk and Germany’s Hagen, BelTA learnt from the youth and mobilization department of the Vitebsk City Executive Committee. Thirty young people will spend the next ten days at a lake near the town of Ruba. The volunteers will help clean the beach and recreation zone, arrange benches, a summerhouse and a volleyball ground. >>>
Belarusian border guards help rescue Lithuanian fisherman
GRODNO, 18 March (BelTA) - Belarusian border guards have helped rescue a Lithuanian fisherman, BelTA learnt from Colonel Sergei Shumeyko, the chief of the press service of the Grodno border group. According to him, yesterday afternoon, while on duty on the Belarusian-Lithuanian border, a team of the Bershty border post noticed a fisherman falling through the ice on Kabeliai lake on the Lithuanian territory. >>>
Ostrovets Forest Company launches export of fuel bricks to Europe
MINSK, 11 February (BelTA) – In January 2011 Ostrovets Forest Company started to produce fuel bricks and export them to Europe, BelTA learned from the chief engineer of the company Ivan Chepukoit. Belarus to reach foreign trade surplus in 2015
MINSK, 1 February (BelTA) - Belarus will reach a surplus of the foreign trade in goods and services in 2015, Prime minister of Belarus Mikhail Myasnikovich said at a meeting of the Council of Ministers. The government is set to reduce the trade deficit in goods and services to a zero by 2014, and secure a surplus in 2015, the Prime Minister said. “Unfortunately, the positions we are starting from are not the best ones. >>>
EU sanctions cannot affect outcome of presidential elections in Belarus, Yermoshina says
MINSK, 1 February (BelTA) – The EU sanctions cannot affect the outcome of the presidential elections in Belarus, the chairperson of the Central Election Commission Lidia Yermoshina said during the Open Format show on the ONT TV Channel on 31 January. According to Lidia Yermoshina, legally the EU sanctions do not mean anything nor can they influence the outcome of the elections. “Therefore, firstly, their purpose is to intimidate the authorities, and secondly, I think, that certain forces in Europe and in other states were perhaps afraid of this warming in the relations, this rapprochement. >>>
Over 300 products recognized as Belarus’ best in 2010
MINSK, 5 January (BelTA) – The Best Products of the Republic of Belarus Contest named 312 products made by 189 companies as the best goods in Belarus in 2010, BelTA learnt from the press service of the State Standardization Committee. Belarus President presents Spiritual Revival awards
MINSK, 5 January (BelTA) – President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko signed decree No. 4 to bestow Spiritual Revival 2010 awards upon nominees on 4 January, the press service of the Belarusian head of state told BelTA. Archbishop of Polotsk and Glubokoye Feodosiy (Pavel Bilchenko), head of the local religious association Polotsk Diocese of the Belarusian Orthodox Church, has been awarded a Spiritual Revival award for active spiritual enlightenment efforts, for a major contribution to preserving the peace between confessions and national accord. >>>
Grodnoinvest’s investments up 36.5% in January-November
GRODNO, 31 December (BelTA) – In January-November 2010 capital investments the Grodnoinvest Free Economic Zone (FEZ) increased by 36.5%, well above the annual 25% growth target, BelTA learned from the administration of the free economic zone. It is expected that in 2010 Grodnoinvest FEZ will exceed the investment target. In November the FEZ funneled over Br90 billion into building and capacity extension, which makes up the annual target. >>>
Ten presidential candidates registered in Belarus

The candidates are incumbent president Alexander Lukashenko as well as Grigory Kostusev, Aleksei Mikhalevich, Vladimir Nekliaev, Yaroslav Romanchuk, Vitaly Rymashevsky, Andrei Sannikov, Nikolai Statkevich, Viktor Tereshchenko, and Dmitry Uss. >>>
Presidential candidates to debate live on TV
MINSK, 18 November (BelTA) - Debate and speeches of the presidential candidates will be broadcast live on radio and television. This decision was taken by the Central Election Commission in a meeting on November 18, BelTA has learnt. Debates will be held on December 4 from 17h00 till 18h00 on TV and on December 5 the same time on radio. Speeches of the presidential candidates will be broadcast on working days from November 22 to December 3. >>>
